(1) "...the most important thing is not life, but the good life (48b)." What is the good life?
(2) "Nor must one, when wronged, inflict wrong in return, as the majority believe, since one must never do wrong (49b)." Why must we not avenge wrong with wrong?
(3) "...one must not give way or retreat or leave one's post, but both in way and in courts and everywhere else, one must obey the commands of one's city and country, or persuade it as to the nature of justice. It is impious to bring violence to bear against your mother or father; it is much more so to use it against your country (51b)." Why is it more impious to bring violence to bear against your country than against your mother?
